WELCOME TO OUR HOME

We had a visitor to our home last night. Karen was at a Relief Society Presidency Meeting and I had my face buried in the fridge, getting a Diet Coke and a sugar-free Jello treat.

I heard a huge crash in the living room and what sounded like a cat rodeo going full force. I ran into the living room and saw:

1 - A monster (75 - 80 lbs) yellow labrador retriever running around the living room.

2 - He was chasing cats around the room. (He was definitely a "he" as he had the nut sack of a big bull.)

3 - The cats were jumping and hissing and spitting and crashing off the walls and off the back, face, and rear end of the dog.

4 - The screen on the screen door was pushed in. Smashed in. Run through.

He saw me and ran up the stairs.

Before I could run up the stairs to get him, I heard another crash, coming from upstairs. I followed the sounds to my office and found him crashed through my upstairs office window, standing on the ledge, shaking from fear.

I couldn't get him to come in. He surely didn't want to jump. I finally picked him up and brought him in my office.

He took off running to other parts of the upstairs, like a wild animal, and ended up in the guest room, digging under the bed, lifting the bed with his back so he could get to a cat that was under it.

I chased him from one side of the bed to the other, trying to grab him. He had no collar, so there was really nothing to grab.

I finally pushed him out of the guest room and into the family room. He ran to the landing, at the top of the stairs, so I tried to corral him down the stairs. It seems that he was afraid of heights, 'cause he was having none of it.

So, I ran down the stairs to the pantry. Got a weiner out of the fridge and ran back up stairs to try to lure him down. Oh, before I went back upstairs, I saw Karen in the car with the RS President, just getting back from her meeting, and stuck my head out the front door, weenie in hand, and yelled, "Help me get this big dog outta here!" Later, she told me that she told the RS President that I was a crazy man and what the heck was I yelling about a big dog anway?

So, I went back up stairs and started trying to lure the dog downstairs. Again, he'd eat the weenie, but he wouldn't go downstairs. Karen sauntered in about that time and asked what the heck I was doing. I said come upstairs and see.

She spotted the dog and ran outside and got our big dog choke chain. She collared the dog and we dragged him down the stairs and out the front door.

We spent the next 2 hours walking around the neighborhood with him to see if anyone would claim him or knew who he was. No one did, so at about 10:00 PM we left him in the back yard of some neighbors who have two big female yellow labs, who stay in the house.

We told them we'd be back today to try to figure out what to do with our house guest.

I'll do that after I repair the front door screen and my office screen.

Well, that was a very entertaining story. Most people would have beat the crap out of that dog for breaking the door. That's what I love about you and mom.

A few weeks ago, I was enjoying the cool spring weather by leaving the side door open. At about 3 in the afternoon, two dogs came sauntering into the house. One was a brindle Pit Bull, and the other was a large black Rottweiler. Not being afraid of large dogs, I got them to come over to me to see if they were friendly.

They were. They were also smelly. I don't know where they had been that day, but I know that wherever it was, there was not a bathtub for miles.

After they were done licking my hand and getting their ears scratched, they left out of the door they entered through, and I haven't seen them since.

One time a big black dog walked in through our open front door. He stayed just long enough to pee on the carpet, then walked back out the front door. If I could have caught him I would have beaten the crap out of him. But I would have waited till we got back outside. Since I already had pee in the carpet.

Great story.

I had a small calico cat come in the house and didn't know it until my Husky had her cornered in the dining room. (She wasn't trying to eat the cat, she just wanted to play.) This animal was completely spooked so I put my dog in the bedroom and lured the cat out onto my screened porch and out the porch door.

I love yellow labs. Maybe some puppies will issue forth out of this meeting between this dog and your neighbors' dogs. Save me one if they do. A female.
