PUT IT ON YOUR CALENDAR

Got a pen and next year's calendar handy? Mark September 3rd and 4th, 2010 on your calendar. That's a Friday and Saturday. We'll be having a Phil & Enid Martin Family Reunion in Provo, UT. September 4, 2010 is also Phil Martin's 85th Birthday, so we'll be celebrating that, as well.

We've tried to give you as much notice as possible, so you can save up some money and make plans to attend.

There will be more, tons more, information to come, but this is just your first notification.

If you have a relative that doesn't check out blogs or even emails, etc., please print this out and send it to them via US Mail.

I hope you'll excuse me for saying so but this seems sort of like an official un-vitation. We have kids in school in Texas on that Friday. And Provo is a really long way to go for one day.
What happened to having it in Dallas in the summer? Or even in Provo in the summer? Where we could kind of get our money's worth by staying more than one night?

Regardless of when or where we have this event, some people won't be able to attend. The 5 siblings discussed, debated, wrangled, and decided upon Provo on Grampy's birthday.

By the way, I didn't suggest Provo and I was the last to vote for it.

Summer in Dallas, Phoenix, Las Vegas, or Provo is extremely hot. None of the siblings wanted to deal with that.

An Un-vitation would be sent to some people, regardless of when or where the reunion is held.

Hopefully, some will figure out a way to get there for the Friday and Saturday. As for staying more than one night, that's an option that all can consider.

When we have it in Dallas, by the way, some of my kids won't be able to attend for one reason or another. We'll do all we can to give advance notice, like we did in this case, so they can try to make the necessary arrangements, but some won't be able to attend.

Our goal is to rotate the time and locations and have as many people as possible join us.

We will be there. Some how, some way. And we will probably be staying to do some touristy crap. So we will be there for more days than the reunion.

After reading AmyWW's post, one of my kids asked, "What would you do, Dad, if you were in Amy situation, but really wanted to attend the Reunion?" First, I told them that I love AmyWW and would love to see her anytime I'm near her or she's near me. Then, I said:

"I'd say, 'Kids, Mom and I going to have you miss one day of school next year...a Friday. We're going to fly out to St. Louis when you get home from school on Thursday. We're going to spend time at the Reunion on Friday and Saturday, seeing family members, then we're going to stay the weekend and see the sights. We'll fly home on Sunday night. Now, in order to do this, we'll need to come up with some money over the next year and I'm asking each of you to come up with some ideas to help us bring in some extra money.' That's how I'd handle it."

Maybe too simplistic, but then, I'm a simple guy!

Saint Louis? What? Who is coming to Saint Louis?

I was simply giving an example of what I would tell my family if the Reunion was in another location.
