I CAN'T PUT IT OFF ANY LONGER

I can't put this off any longer. However, it just doesn't seem right without Jeff. I realize that my sisters, Linda and Michelle, and our Dad's son (and our brother), Melvin, and I are all still Phil & Enid's offspring and we're alive and, hopefully, carrying on some of the Martin Family traditions and name and blood. But without Jeff along side us, it's been very hard for me to bring this up again.

Linda, Michele, and Melvin - We need to carry on in Jeff's absence.

So, without further ado (no, it's not supposed to be "adieu"), it's time we got down to some serious planning of the "2010 Martin Family Reunion and Phil Martin 85th Birthday Celebration!" Is that title long enough? I've tried to think of some other things we could add to the title, but nothing comes to mind...yet.

Our plan is to have this huge party on Friday and Saturday, September 3rd and 4th in Provo, UT. Let's see if we can make this one even more successful than the last. Let's make sure that we contact every family member we can think of, from Provo to Mesa to Dallas to Norman and all stops in between and around.

We need to have a conference call to get this moving forward again. Maybe Paula or Kelly or David could fill in for Jeff as his family's representative to the Reunion Committee? (Not that Rick couldn't do it. He's not that busy, but he's far away, right?)

Let's plan the call and get going again. Okay?

Hey!! I know!! How about the "2010 Martin Family Reunion, Phil Martin 85th Birthday Celebration, and Jeff Martin Memorial."

We could all come to the party prepared to share photos and stories about Jeff, as well as stories and photos of our Dad and Grampy, Phil Martin.

Bobby and I are planning to be there, but I think my children are not.

Flying is prohibitively expensive for a family, and driving is out of the question during the school year.

I am ok for a conference call, but I agree, it's difficult without Jeff this year--probably for all the years ahead, too.

i'm looking forward to seeing Grampy again- plus anyone else who can head out this way. We'll make it a good reunion :)

One of the reasons we waited two years to have another reunion, was to keep from having to come up with the dough to travel to a family reunion every year.

For Linda's kids this time and my kids (and the other members of our family) next and future times, please help make this important enough by saving up money to be able to attend every other year.

I know it's expensive. I know it takes time. I know we have many reasons for not attending, but I ask you to, please, try to figure out a way to attend our family reunions every two years.

We'll continue to schedule them in every corner of the western U.S., to accommodate all of us.

As be lose family members, like Grammy and Jeff, we need to try even harder to attend these reunions, to keep their memory alive and to make sure we see each other, even if it is only every two years.

I look forward to seeing those who can make it this September.

Well, you're right of course Bob. It isn't ever going to be convenient and cheap to travel to a family reunion. And there are always things in people's lives that are going to come up and make it difficut. But if some parts of the family can't come, it doesn't mean it isn't a priority at all, it just means there are things that are more pressing at the moment. Kids must be sent to expensive things like college and missions, and have things provided for them like car insurance and braces, and things like family reunions may have to take a back seat for awhile, however much we might like to come. And of couse we'd like to come, which is why we were quite disappointed that the reunion in Dallas was cancelled.
I do have a question, is there no way that the reunions can ever be held during summer vacation so that far-flung relatives could have time to drive there? Three and four-day holiday weekends don't make it very easy for out-of-towners.
